Genesis for the Room (and other) Project is an idea of
Gerry's:
An inspiration! This is just a crude fantasy--We need some sort of
complete archive and time-line of events which could be available on line
to all alumni and current school personnel -- a potentially massive
project.
(A petty example--I was trying to remember the sequence of rooms I was in
for all 8 semesters which 25 years ago I probably still remembered and now
do not. For example that room (8, I think, 2nd fl, NW corner) with Dana,
Bill, Ed and me-- was that first or second semester of the sophomore
year? And I can't remember my other room that year. Somewhere there
might still be a list of room assignments year after year. Just imagine--
a list of who was in each room each semester. (I know they were typed up
and posted , but were they filed away the the office, and do they still
exist somewhere? maybe not-- maybe they discarded a lot of that stuff,
but I wonder)
We need cross referenced lists of people, and academic classes, and
minutes of self gov, officework assignments, dorm room assignments, who
was on dorm committee, office work checkers, and curriculum outlines,
special events, visitors (eg. Peace Pilgrim) and archived scans of the
student newspaper and the Olney Current going as far back as possible. I
bet a lot of that information is stashed away somewhere at the school.
All of the class pictures which have been so beautifully restored and
captioned by John M and Wanda R should be put on line and any other photos
of interest that can be dated and documented. What I'm envisioning would
be separate from
Olneyfriends.org, and there would also be links to other
pertinent sites like
Olney65.org
Crazy idea? Probably very costly. Volunteers?
